New food to try

I saw an internet ad for these

Laura's Lean Beef - www.laurasleanbeef.com

They are hormone and antibiotic free

Looks delicious and she ships to regular stores in 47 states. Albertson's in Utah and Giant Eagle in Ohio from my store searches for myself and family.

I will try them and see and I'll post a review here.

Best Burgers!

We grilled these steak burgers and boy are they delicious!

They are from Gordon Food Service and are made with sirloin beef and are 80/20 lean.

They are 1/3 pound each and when cooked med rare they are delicious with a everything on it burger!

Weight Watchers - they are 7 points per burger, but well worth the treat!

Girl Scout Cookies

Now that it's Girl Scout Cookie season

I reviewed the Nutritional Information and the best cookie for your serving is...

Trefoils with 5 cookies per serving for 150 calories

Thin Mints are a close second with 4 cookies per serving for the same calories.

YUM!

The worst deal are the new Lemon Cremes at 1 cookie per serving for 80 calories!

Second are the the peanut butter Tagalongs with 2 cookies per serving for 160 calories and 10 g of fat!

Neiman Marcus Cake

I had this at someone's house last night for dessert. It is rich and delish!

Here is the original recipe from what I could find on the internet.

About 240 calories per serving and lots of fat!
Based on 9 x 13 pan cut into about 20 pieces.

NEIMAN MARCUS CAKE
Bottom Layer
1 box yellow cake mix
1/4 lb butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 cp chopped pecans

Top Layer
1 box powdered sugar
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 eggs, beaten

Mix together first four ingredients and press into 13x9 cake pan. Cake pan should be greased and floured. Mix last 3 ingredients together and spread on top of cake that has been pressed into pan. Bake at 300 degress for 1 hour.

MAKEOVER:
About 60 calories and some fat

Use light yellow cake mix (saves about 160 cal)
Use margarine instead of butter
Use light cream cheese (light has more body than fat free)

I may make this sometime to try out my updates.

For those on Weight Watchers - the original is 6 points per serving the new version would be about 1.5 points per serving.

ENJOY!

Crab, Shrimp & Lobster Fettucini Alfredo

Earlier this week I went to Red Lobster for dinner. Among these 2 wonderful lobstertails and some steamed broccoli lurked a pile of this Alfredo!

Because I did not want to use up my WW points I did not eat it and brought it home - worth a gold star there!

Today I brought it for lunch -- is it really worth the approximately 650 calories and who knows how much fat? Is it worth the 17 points on Weight Watchers? I did journal this and planned to eat it!

Review: While this was good and tasty, I am glad I didn't eat it with my meal, not really worth the calories or points.

MAKEOVER to make this at home:

* Use whole wheat or multi-grain fettucini

* Keep Crab, Lobster, and Shrimp

* Saute in some olive oil instead of butter and cream

* Season with some chopped fresh parsley and fresh parmesan cheese on top

NOTE: Frustration with Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants! What are you afraid of? Why don't you publish the nutritional information for all your menu items? Not just the garden fare or Litehouse fare! If I want to eat the fettucini alfredo I should be able to see what I am eating nutritionally? Are you saying that all your other menu items are not worth eating since you aren't brave enough to post their nutritional information? I may eat a Lite entree but I may want to treat myself to a dessert or an appetizer that is not but I don't know how many calories or fat or anything since you are too scared to post your nutritional information. PLEASE POST IT ON YOUR WEBSITE!
